Description

After several days of bad weather, it was the last opportunity to image the comet 12P/Pons-Brooks before the Moon took center stage. In this image taken on February 13, 2024, the Moon was already present with a 20% illuminated fraction. Despite the peri-urban sky illumination, it was fortunately quite transparent, allowing the capture of the ion tail that had been very active for a couple of weeks, revealing some structural details, especially a long and very narrow jet that extends beyond the frame of the frame. The comet's brightness is magnitude 7.2, and the red star in the lower right corner is 1 Lacertae with a magnitude of 4.
